Brock Purdy is on track to start for the San Francisco 49ers in their Sunday night clash against the Buffalo Bills. After missing last week's blowout loss to the Green Bay Packers due to shoulder discomfort, the 49ers' quarterback has shown significant improvement in practice this week.
Officially listed as questionable, Purdy's progression throughout the week suggests he'll be back under center barring unforeseen circumstances. Head coach Kyle Shanahan expressed optimism about Purdy's status, stating, "He's had a good week. Unless something changes, he's ready to go."
The 49ers' signal-caller revealed that the discomfort in his throwing shoulder developed gradually during their November 17 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Subsequent MRIs showed no major damage, allowing the team to create a structured throwing plan for Purdy. "Thanksgiving was the first day I really felt like myself again," said Purdy, who fully participated in Friday's practice.
Purdy's return could stabilize an offense that struggled in his absence, but the team still faces an uphill battle due to a depleted roster.
Key absences: Bosa, Williams, and more
San Francisco will be without several key contributors against Buffalo. Left tackle Trent Williams (ankle) and edge rusher Nick Bosa (hip and oblique) have been ruled out for the second consecutive week. Their absences leave gaps in both protection and defensive pressure.
Cornerback Deommodore Lenoir (knee), guard Aaron Banks (concussion), and defensive tackle Jordan Elliott (concussion) are also unavailable, further thinning the 49ers' depth chart.
The offensive line will see continued adjustments, with Jaylon Moore stepping in at left tackle and a rotation of options to cover Banks' position. Williams, who remains sidelined with an elevated left foot, has not progressed as hoped. Shanahan itted, "It's all about how they heal, and unfortunately, Trent hasn't been recovering as quickly as we expected."

On a brighter note, cornerback Charvarius Ward is set to return after missing time due to personal reasons. Ward, who hasn't played since October 27, participated fully in practice all week. Shanahan expressed confidence in Ward's readiness, saying, "He had a great week of practice. We're excited to have him back."
