Jalen Hurts, a key figure in the Philadelphia Eagles' signature "Tush Push" play, has been at the center of discussions about its future, though he's chosen not to weigh in on the controversy.
The Super Bowl champion team is bracing for an vote that will determine whether the Tush Push remains part of their strategy, with some optimism among critics that the formation might finally be banned.
Jalen Hurts' response on the Tush Push
With the NFL's decision looming on whether the Eagles can continue using the play, the Super Bowl MVP quarterback opted for silence when pressed by reporters.
"I don't necessarily have a comment on that," Hurts said, offering no further insight.
The team's owner, Jeffrey Lurie, general manager Howie Roseman, and head coach Nick Sirianni made their stance clear during the NFL owners' meetings in March, expressing strong discontent at the prospect of a ban.
No team that dominates with a play like the Tush Push would be pleased with its potential removal. The Eagles are the only team to execute it effectively, leaving opponents struggling to counter it. Moreover, there's no evidence suggesting the play leads to injuries.
"We'll see where that goes," Sirianni said. "We're not waiting for very long to figure it out. It's going to be public (Wednesday), and you know how I feel about it. We obviously were at the owners' meetings. We talked about how we felt about it, and I don't think anyone could question what my sentiment is on it. So, we'll see what happens with it (Wednesday)."
Beyond Hurts, a couple of offensive linemen seem less fazed by the possibility of a ban.
"I'm just a football player here," center Cam Jurgens remarked shortly after g his contract extension earlier this offseason. "If they ban it, they ban it, it's out of my control. I feel like it's a fun play for us to run, and we run it well. It would be a shame if they take it out of our hands, but it's not something I need to be concerned with."
