It's head scratcher for Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets after their defeat to the Buffalo Bills on Monday, October 14 suggesting that their ex-head coach, Robert Saleh, might not have been the problem after all.
Joe Allen's Bills side ran out 23-20 winners at the MetLife Stadium in the first game since Woody Johnson decided to send Saleh to the chopping black, whilst Rodgers himself also struggled to make an impression too.
The 40-year-old quarterback only managed a completion rate of 65.7% and threw for 294 yards and two touchdowns whilst Allen proved to be far more efficient by ing for 76%, 215 yards and equally, two touchdowns.
Ultimately, it leaves the Jets with a 2-4 record in the AFC East as they now slip to be two games behind the Bills in second place, although they remain level with the injury-stricken Miami Dolphins.
But what are the reasons? It just seems that the franchise's star players are not living up to the hype. Rodgers is struggling to be the QB he was with the Green Bay Packers whilst Breece Hall hasn't managed to establish himself as the dominant force in the offense.
Additionally, there's a lot of issues with actually protecting Rodgers who has now been sacked 16 times through six games and it's putting him under too much pressure to release the ball faster as he tossed five interceptions in 2024/25 too.
So whilst Saleh was no Bill Belichick, he also wasn't getting helped out by his team like he should have been and with the reputations preceding the players, it's put him under an unfair amount of pressure which is something Rodgers even felt guilty for.
Who do the Jets play in Week 7?
The New York Jets are on Sunday Night Football in Week 7 as they take on the Pittsburgh Steelers at the Acrisure Stadium, with kick-off on October 20 expected at 20:20 ET/17:20 PT.
