Rest easy Las Vegas Raiders fans, Davante Adams' agents have killed talks of a dramatic transfer to the New York Jets dead in the water as a mouthwatering link up with Aaron Rodgers seemed to be on the horizon.
Adams record eight touchdowns from 1144 receiving yards in his latest NFL season in an underwhelming Raiders team that finished with a .471 record after multiple quarterback changes and even the sacking of their manager.
So, with the Allegiant Stadium facing the prospect of remaining in turmoil, in the shadow of the Kansas City Chiefs' juggernaut, there were talks that the 31-year-old could jump ship and even swap the West Coast for the East Coast but based on the agents' comments, we can forget about it.
"This is baseless, unfounded speculation," Kenny Chapman and Frank Bauer told ESPN. "And Davante is expected to be with the Raiders as there has been absolutely no trade talk - period."
Talks of a trade had been sparked by Aaron Rodgers himself, who had said, "I love Davante. Can't wait to play with him," before he later added, "again" as an afterthought. The pair had forged a highly dynamic relationship with the Green Bay Packers between 2014-2021.
In that time, they linked up for 8121 yards from 669 successful receptions before they eventually headed in separate directions. They were selected to a combined 12 Pro Bowls and five All-Pros.
Comment not surprising according to Boomer Esiason
Trades are very complicated, and teams often look to find strict ways of controlling what the players/organization says, and when they actually say it, whilst players can also make sure they are quiet to maintain their reputation too.
But that does not mean discussions won't be held, according to Boomer Esiason, an ex-Jets quarterback, who insisted that Adams likes to drop subtle hints about his prospects of departure rather than massive statements.
"Davante is never going to come out publicly and say, 'I want to leave the Raiders,'" Esiason said to WFAN on July 15. "But you do hear in this wide receiver program ["Receiver" on Netflix], where he does this, 'I got to get out of here before I get killed.' He says that. That leads the viewer to believe that he wants out of Vegas.
"But I don't see him saying that publicly. I don't see him going to the media and saying, 'Get me out of here.' I can see him saying to his agent, much like he did to Green Bay, the same type of thing."
