There's no doubt that the media and NFL attention is heavily focused on the Cleveland Browns organization, given that Shedeur Sanders is one of five quarterbacks currently on the roster, all competing for the starting job in Week 1 when Kevin Stefanski's team faces the Cincinnati Bengals.
However, it seems that the New York Giants' training camp will also be interesting for the same reason. Rookie Jaxson Dart has impressed Head Coach Brian Daboll in his first practices, making the competition with Russell Wilson-and possibly Jameis Winston-an intriguing one.
The next three months will be very interesting for the Giants. Brian Daboll indicated that training would begin with Wilson leading the team, but in a year where both Daboll and General Manager Joe Schoen are fighting for their jobs, they might decide to go all-in on their guy, and that guy could be Jaxson Dart.
There's an intriguing prediction that places Jaxson Dart as the starter from Week 1
Jaxson Dart hasn't just excited fans and the Giants organization; he's also impressed former Texas Longhorns quarterback Chris Simms, who wouldn't be surprised to see Dart start from Week 1.
Simms appeared on the Up & Adams podcast and was asked by Kay Adams about the situation. The former NFL player said that Dart could take control of the team immediately.
"God, I wouldn't be surprised if he starts right away. I wouldn't be surprised," he said. "I'm not expecting the Giants to be a super team, right? I'm not picking the Giants to make the playoffs. The amount of money they're paying Russell Wilson doesn't guarantee him the starting quarterback job."
The key for Simms is for Dart to have an exceptional training camp and to quickly master Daboll's system. If that happens, he could be a candidate to start in Week 1 when New York faces the Commanders.
"Those are the kinds of things I watch for to say: if Jaxson Dart is phenomenal during training camp and OTAs, and he has a really good preseason, and Russell Wilson is just okay and doesn't look that sharp, I don't think they'll be afraid to start Jaxson Dart."
It'll be fun to watch what unfolds in New York. But if Daboll and Schoen are fighting for their jobs, their duty might be to put their quarterback on the field right away. Also, considering the structure of Russell Wilson's contract, the team isn't fully committed to giving the starting role to the former Steelers quarterback.
