The 2025 NFL Draft continues to make headlines, and not just for the blockbuster trades or surprise picks.

As it turns out, Shedeur Sanders wasn't the only prospect to fall victim to a prank call during the event.

Abdul Carter nearly fooled before Giants pick

According to his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, standout Penn State rusher Abdul Carter received a fake call just minutes before being drafted third overall by the New York Giants.

The call reportedly came while the Jacksonville Jaguars were on the clock with the No. 2 pick, shortly after acquiring the selection in a trade with the Cleveland Browns.

A person pretending to represent the Jaguars told Carter he was going to be their choice, sending a brief wave of confusion through the room, but not for long.

"It's unfortunate that these private numbers are getting to the people making the prank calls," Rosenhaus told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

"Abdul and I knew it was B.S. and didn't even tell his family about the call."

Unlike Sanders, whose prank became viral after video of the moment surfaced online, Carter and his camp were quick to recognize the call as illegitimate.

Their sharp instincts saved them from informing friends and family of a pick that never came.

Jacksonville ultimately selected wide receiver Travis Hunter with the second pick, and Carter was chosen immediately after by the Giants.

The NFL has already taken action in at least one instance.

The league fined the Atlanta Falcons$250,000 and defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich $100,000 after it was revealed that Ulbrich's son, Jax, obtained Shedeur Sanders' number and helped coordinate a prank call while posing as the Saints' general manager.

While the NFL stated that other incidents, including Carter's, appear unrelated to the Sanders prank, the league confirmed it is continuing to investigate the broader trend.

Other prospects, such as Penn State's Tyler Warren and Michigan's Mason Graham, also reportedly received false calls from individuals impersonating team executives.

With prank calls becoming an unfortunate recurring theme during what should be a life-changing moment for young athletes, it's likely the NFL will consider preventative measures for future drafts.

As Rosenhaus put it, the spread of these fake calls "shouldn't be part of the process for players at this level."

Whether it becomes a turning point for policy remains to be seen, but this year's draft has left several top prospects with an unexpected, and frustrating, story to tell.
