Jordan Addison, the Minnesota Vikings' rookie wide receiver, has found himself in legal trouble following a significant speeding violation. On July 20, Addison was cited for traveling at an excessive speed of 140 mph in a 55 mph zone. The incident took place on a St. Paul, Minnesota, highway around 3:07 a.m. Police detailed that Addison was driving his Lamborghini Urus SUV at the time.

Initially charged with misdemeanor reckless driving, Addison later entered a plea deal. As a result, he will now only face a petty misdemeanor speeding charge, which carries a fine of $686. However, it's worth noting that this deal still awaits a judge's approval on September 19, as reported by ESPN.

Attempting to provide context for his actions, the 21-year-old first-round draft pick explained his decision to speed as being due to a pet emergency. While he was not arrested, Addison recognized the severity of his actions and issued an apology, stating,

I made a mistake and used poor judgment. I recognize and own that. I am going to learn from this and not repeat the behavior.

Drafted with the No. 23 pick, Addison is a significant acquisition for the Vikings. He was brought in to supplement the abilities of wide receiver Justin Jefferson, and replace those of Adam Thielen. The Vikings' choice to invest in Addison comes on the back of their 2022 season performance, which saw them clinch the NFC North title but also experience an early playoff exit in the first round.

On the field, Addison's potential is evident. Named the best wide receiver in college football, he made a noticeable impact during his college years, recording 219 receptions for 3,134 yards and securing 29 touchdowns across four collegiate seasons. Splitting his time between Pitt and USC, Addison showcased his skill and promise, which the Vikings hope to harness in the season.
