Just as the Minnesota Vikings were preparing for the start of their training camp, they were hit with bad news concerning their top selection from this year's draft, Jordan Addison. Early on Thursday morning, the rookie Addison was stopped and ticketed by the Minnesota State Patrol for speeding at 140 mph in a 55 mph zone.
Addison, an accomplished receiver from Pitt and USC, brings with him lots of anticipation from both the Vikings' coaching staff and ers for the season. As the recipient of the Biletnikoff Award in 2021, the award given to the top wide receiver in college football, he is arguably one of the most skilled players at his position coming out of this year's draft. The Vikings are hopeful that he can emerge as another lead receiver, sidekick to Justin Jefferson, especially following the departure of seasoned receiver Adam Thielen. Addison is slated to play a critical role in the Vikings' offensive scheme.
Following the incident, the Vikings made a statement, which was relayed by Ian Rapoport:
"We have been informed of the traffic incident involving Jordan Addison last night and are currently collecting more information."
The Vikings' training camp starts on July 25th, with rookies arriving two days prior. It's uncertain how this incident might affect Addison's involvement in the camp. His participation during OTAs was limited due to an unspecified injury, and it's yet to be determined if this will impact his readiness for training camp. The Vikings will kick off their season at home, facing off against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
