Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has announced a significant expansion of his business ventures, revealing plans to increase the presence of Whataburger restaurants in the Kansas City area.

This move is part of a t venture between Whataburger and KMO Burger, the franchise group in which Mahomes holds a stake.

"As a longtime fan and investor, I'm thrilled to take this next step with Whataburger," Mahomes said in a statement. "The brand means a lot to me - not just for the food, but for how it brings people together."

A huge expansion begins

The collaboration will see Whataburger contributing its 16 company-owned restaurants in the Kansas City and Springfield, Missouri markets, while KMO Burger will add its 13 existing locations. The combined 29 restaurants will operate under the Whataburger brand, with KMO Burger, LLC overseeing their management.

Mahomes' off-field ventures reflect commitment to Kansas City

Mahomes' involvement in expanding Whataburger aligns with his broader commitment to the Kansas City community. Beyond his football achievements, he holds ownership stakes in several local sports teams, including a 1% share in the Kansas City Royals and involvement with the Kansas City Current women's soccer team.

His business interests also extend to the opening of a steakhouse, 1587 Prime, in collaboration with teammate Travis Kelce.

The expansion of Whataburger under KMO Burger's management will involve transitioning current restaurant staff to become employees of KMO Burger. A dedicated team is in place to ensure a smooth transition, providing necessary resources and throughout the process.
