Taylor Swift's long-anticipated re-recording of Reputation may be closer than fans expected, and the latest clue came in a surprising place.
In a gripping opening sequence of Hulu's The Handmaid's Tale, "Look What You Made Me Do (Taylor's Version)" made a dramatic entrance during Episode 9 of Season 6, which aired May 19.

The episode, titled "Execution," opens with the haunting, reimagined track playing over two intense minutes as June (played by Elisabeth Moss) leads a covert Mayday attack against Gilead's ruling commanders.
As gunfire erupts and sirens wail, Swift's ominous vocals soundtrack a chilling march of red-robed women, a moment that sent shockwaves through the Swiftie fandom and Handmaid's Tale audience alike.
The powerful use of the song wasn't accidental.
"I've been wanting to use a Taylor song for many years on the show and we finally found the perfect spot for a track from her,"Moss shared with Billboard.
"And I'm so glad we waited because there could not be a more perfect song for a more perfect moment."
Though this isn't the first snippet of the re-recorded "Look What You Made Me Do" to surface, previous excerpts appeared in Amazon Prime's Wilderness, this marks the longest uninterrupted stretch of the track heard to date.
The episode features the first verse, chorus, and a reprise, with the full sequence clocking in at just over two minutes.
The drop comes amid growing speculation that Swift is preparing to officially announce Reputation (Taylor's Version).
Fans have noted cryptic clues, including a subtle "AMAs" acronym on Swift's merch site, sparking theories that she may reveal the release at the American Music Awards on May 26.
Originally released in 2017, Reputation was a defiant pivot in Swift's discography.
In a 2023 interview, Swift described the project as "a goth-punk moment of female rage at being gaslit by an entire social structure," adding that the unreleased vault tracks are "fire."
With the latest episode of The Handmaid's Tale adding fuel to the rumor mill, Swifties are once again on high alert, and the re-recorded era of Reputation might just be knocking.
