Thanksgiving in Dallas is already a major football tradition, but this year's holiday matchup is bringing a new layer of intrigue - both on and off the field. Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs are heading to Arlington to face Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys in a marquee Week 13 showdown on November 27, CBS announced Wednesday morning.

This marks Mahomes' first NFL game in Dallas, a homecoming of sorts for the Tyler, Texas native. While the Chiefs did host the Cowboys in 2021 - a 19-9 Kansas City win - Mahomes didn't throw a touchdown in that contest. Prescott didn't fare much better in that game, also going without a touchdown.

However, Prescott does have a win over the Chiefs to his name. Back in 2017, when Mahomes was still a rookie on the bench, the Cowboys quarterback tossed two touchdown es in a 28-17 win at AT&T Stadium.

While the game itself promises high stakes, the off-field buzz is already growing - largely due to the Mahomes-Kelce-Swift orbit. With Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift now one of the most talked-about couples in sports and entertainment, their holiday plans may have just been disrupted. A Thanksgiving Day trip to Dallas means Kansas City's stars - including Brittany and Patrick Mahomes - won't be spending the holiday at home.

For Taylor Swift, known for maintaining close ties with family during the holidays, the Chiefs' Thanksgiving road game could throw a wrench into any personal traditions. It's also likely to affect the Mahomes family's schedule, especially since Brittany Mahomes has frequently hosted gatherings around Kansas City.

Beyond the pop culture impact, the game itself has serious playoff implications. The Cowboys' 2025 schedule includes matchups against 10 teams that made the playoffs in 2024, including the Chiefs. Dallas will also face each of the top seven scoring defenses from last season.

For the Chiefs, it's no easier. Kansas City is also set to play 10 playoff teams from last year, including all three of their 2024 postseason opponents - the Texans, Bills, and Eagles.

On top of their Thanksgiving game in Dallas, the Chiefs will also host the Denver Broncos on Christmas Day in Week 17.

This will be Kansas City's first Thanksgiving appearance since 2006, the year the NFL introduced a three-game holiday format. The franchise holds a 5-5 record all-time on Thanksgiving.

The Cowboys, by contrast, have been Thanksgiving staples since 1966, compiling a 34-22-1 record on the holiday.

With the full 2025 NFL schedule set to be revealed at 8 p.m. ET Wednesday on NFL Network and other platforms, fans can expect even more prime-time clashes - but it's this November date in Texas that's already creating headlines for more than just football reasons.
