Ahead of the NFL trade deadline (Tuesday, November 5), the Kansas City Chiefs remain the only undefeated team this season.

Patrick Mahomes' team may be the current Super Bowl Champions, but they still have areas that need strengthening to stay competitive in the playoffs.

According to recent reports, Andy Reid and the Chiefs are in discussions with the New Orleans Saints to acquire cornerback Marshon Lattimore.

As the Chiefs aim to fortify their roster for a deep playoff run, Lattimore, a four-time Pro Bowler, could provide much-needed depth to their injury-plagued secondary and strengthen a defense critical to the team's Super Bowl aspirations.

Despite Kansas City's consistent postseason success under quarterback Patrick Mahomes and head coach Andy Reid, the wear and tear of multiple deep playoff runs have impacted the roster.

With several key injuries on defense and a depleted cornerback lineup, Chiefs general manager Brett Veach has been actively exploring trade options to maintain Kansas City's championship momentum.

Why are the Chiefs targeting Lattimore?

Lattimore, 27, has been at the center of trade rumors as the Saints, currently sitting at 2-6, lean towards rebuilding.

New Orleans is reportedly open to trade offers for players unlikely to be part of the franchise's long-term future, and while a recent contract extension removed running back Alvin Kamara from the trade block, Lattimore remains a sought-after asset.

He's coming off an impressive season and has allowed only a 69.1 quarterback rating when targeted-marking one of the best performances of his career.

However, Lattimore's recent hamstring injuries, which forced him out of Week 9 after setbacks in previous games, add some complexity to a potential trade.

While Kansas City could absorb his 2024 salary at just $1.21 million, the deal would involve a hefty $20.63 million cap charge for 2025 if he were released.

Despite this, Lattimore's current performance and long-term potential may be worth the financial commitment for a Chiefs team determined to secure its third consecutive Super Bowl title.

The Chiefs' secondary has seen substantial turnover since last season, including the offseason trade of cornerback L'Jarius Sneed and a significant injury to Jaylen Watson.

As Veach eyes Lattimore as a possible solution, the Chiefs have already taken steps to bolster other areas, acquiring wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins and linebacker Josh Uche in earlier deals.

But if Kansas City can navigate the cap complications of adding Lattimore, his skillset could be instrumental in tightening up a defense that needs reinforcement for the postseason.
