The Kansas City Chiefs made a bold move in the 2024 NFL Draft, trading up in the first round to select Texas WR Xavier Worthy.

With his record-setting 4.23 40-yard dash, Worthy brings exceptional speed to Kansas City's receiver group, complementing Hollywood Brown, Rashee Rice, and Travis Kelce.

Special teams coordinator Dave Toub sees Worthy as a player reminiscent of Tyreek Hill. While it's uncertain if Worthy will play on special teams, Toub hopes to utilize his unique talents there.

Worthy's dual threat potential

Though known for his achievements as a receiver, Worthy is also a formidable returner. In 2023, he recorded 22 returns for 371 yards (16.9 yards per return) and a touchdown.

His game-changing speed, combined with Toub's innovative return schemes, positions Worthy as a significant threat.

Regardless of comparisons to Hill, Worthy's value to the Chiefs is undeniable. The coaching staff appears unconcerned about the pressure such comparisons might create. While Hill remains one of the NFL's top weapons, the Chiefs believe Worthy can rise to the challenge.

Worthy's early chemistry with Mahomes

Despite being sidelined for most of the offseason due to a hamstring injury, Worthy has quickly built a rapport with QB Patrick Mahomes.

During initial on-field drills, Mahomes showcased Worthy's speed by connecting on a deep , impressing everyone with his 4.21 40-yard dash speed, the fastest ever recorded at the combine.

At just 21 years old, Worthy is already making a significant impact. Drafted 27th overall, he provides the deep threat the Chiefs have missed since Hill's departure. With veterans like Travis Kelce and Rashee Rice, Worthy's speed will challenge defenses this season, promising an exciting future for Kansas City's offense.
