Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and actor Jason Sudeikis showed off their softball skills Friday at the 14th annual Big Slick celebrity softball game, with the former clearly outplaying the latter, who was on the same team as the reigning NFL champion.
Mahomes, 27, hit a home run and had several other highlights to help his side win the game at Kaufmann Stadium ahead of the Royals' series opener against the Colorado Rockies.
Sudeikis, 47, was one of the pioneers of the celebrity game, which raises money for Children's Mercy Hospital. Paul Rudd, a huge Chiefs and Mahomes fan, was also among the founders of the event.
Chiefs offensive lineman Creed Humphrey was among many celebrities at the game, including Al Yankovic, Dustin Colquitt, Will Forte, David Cook and Joe Lo Truglio.
Mahomes is a minority owner of the Royals and could have been a pitcher in the MLB had he not opted to play in the NFL.
$17 million raised for Children's Mercy Hospital
The event started in 2010 when Rob Riggle teammed up with fellow Kansas City natives, Rudd and Sudeikis, to raise money for Children's Mercy Hospital.
The first year they raised $120,000 and in the 13 editions since then, they've managed to rack up $17 million.
Royals manager Matt Quatraro and players watched as Mahomes hit the best homer of the event, stating that his wife was excited to attend the fundraiser.
"[My wife] was pretty excited to come out here and see this," Quatraro said. "I started to look at the names, and there were some big names -- and for a great cause. I'm looking forward to being a spectator."
Rockies ended up winning the game over Royals by a landslide.
