Jacksonville ready to trade Travis Etienne after Hunter deal as Bigsby fails to impress

Travis Etienne's underwhelming 2024 season and Tank Bigsby's struggles have the Jaguars eyeing a fresh start at running back, just as Liam Coen settles in and Travis Hunter shakes up the offense.

Travis Etienne Jr. was once seen as the long-term answer in Jacksonville's backfield. Drafted in the first round in 2021, his early performances showed explosive promise. But after a disappointing 2024 season, where he managed just 558 rushing yards, his value is quickly declining. Now, with a new head coach in Liam Coen and the team acquiring standout playmaker Travis Hunter, Etienne's future with the Jaguars appears uncertain.

Reports have begun to swirl that Jacksonville might be ready to move on. The addition of younger backs like Bhayshul Tuten and LeQuint Allen signals a clear intention: Coen wants fresh legs and a new dynamic. And with Etienne entering the final year of his rookie deal, the timing for a trade couldn't be more ideal.

Bigsby's big chance... blown

While Etienne's stock is falling, his backup, Tank Bigsby, has failed to capitalize on the opportunity. After two seasons, Bigsby's résumé includes five fumbles and shaky performances under pressure. A recent fan poll showed overwhelming for Etienne over Bigsby, yet neither back has truly earned the coaching staff's full trust.

The Jaguars were likely hoping Bigsby could become a reliable replacement or at least a strong RB2. Instead, he's shown flashes of potential but not enough consistency. His ball security issues and limited production have left Jacksonville's backfield without a clear lead.

A trade to Denver makes too much sense

One intriguing possibility? A fresh start for Etienne in Denver. The Broncos are reportedly interested in acquiring a low-cost, high-upside veteran, and Etienne fits the bill. A proposed trade involving a sixth-round pick could bring Etienne, and a late-round 2027 pick, to Mile High.

Etienne still brings dual-threat value, with over 2,100 rushing yards across 2022-2023 and 93 career receptions. For a team like Denver that just added rookie R.J. Harvey, he could be the stabilizing veteran presence their offense needs.

Etienne's crossroads

The Jaguars' backfield situation is now wide open. With Liam Coen reworking the offense and Travis Hunter drawing attention, Jacksonville is clearly in reboot mode. Whether Etienne gets one more chance, or a ticket out, remains to be seen, but the message is clear: the Jaguars are done waiting.
