Heading into a new NFL season and with the burden of opening it against the reigning Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys added George Pickens to their roster.
Despite the great discussions and controversies due to his unsportsmanlike conduct, the wide receiver could give great joy to the team by making an explosive duo with quarterback Dak Prescott.
Or at least, this is the opinion of a former NFL player who goes even further: he states that he could have two receivers with impressive numbers.
Speaking on FS1's "The Facility" James Jones, he said the duo of CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens "will be a big-time duo," but believes Prescott will be able to keep both receivers happy.
"Dak Prescott, this should be easy, man. I've seen Aaron Rodgers make five people happy..... The ball will be in your hands. Give George Pickens some opportunities to make plays, and obviously CeeDee Lamb will get his. But giving these guys six or seven es a game? That's a piece of cake for them, and it should be more," Jones commented.
While he itted that it all depends on the team's goals and that their opponents will obviously have to change the way they play: "I'm not gonna see a lot of double teams. I'm gonna see a lot of one-on-ones because number 14 is over there ... If these dudes get seven or 10 targets a game, which is very, very easy, they are going to have some catches. That is not hard for Dak Prescott," said the former wide receiver.
While that hasn't happened since 2021, when asked what kind of numbers they might post, Jones didn't hesitate for a second to say, "10 touchdowns a piece, a thousand plus." The last to achieve them were Cincinnati Bengals in the hands of Ja'Marr Chase (1,455 yards, 13 TDs) and Tee Higgins (1,091 yards, 6 TDs).
With the QB making progress in recovering from his hamstring injury during a Dallas Cowboys game in 2024 and with Pickens coming off being the leading receiver for the Pittsburgh Steelers - where he caught 174 es for 2,841 yards and 12 touchdowns in three seasons - both could Prescott has mentioned he's eager to play with him.
Dallas' next steps
As expected, the Eagles will continue a tradition since 2004 and host the Cowboys, becoming the 20th champions to kick off an NFL regular season.
The Dallas Cowboys will travel to Lincoln Financial Field on Thursday, September 4 and will be looking to break the streak, as in the last three occasions in which they have faced each other, the Eagles have defended their home against them.
November 5, 2023 was the last time Prescott stepped on the Eagles' home field. There, the Dallas quarterback finished the game with 374 yards and three touchdown es, however they fell 28-23. Years later, with a rebounding Dak Prescott, the Cowboys are hoping to turn things around. Will the stellar duo predicted by Jones bear fruit?
