The Dallas Cowboys are looking to build a highly competitive team for the season - especially after their failure to make the playoffs and having to watch from home as their division rivals, the Philadelphia Eagles and the Washington Commanders, faced off in the NFC Championship game.
Jerry Jones' team has a lot of needs. The reality is, if you're a Cowboys fan, you should be very concerned. This team lacks a strong running game, a solid No. 2 wide receiver, offensive line depth, and also has some holes on defense.
On the defensive side, of course, the Dallas Cowboys arguably have the best defensive player in the NFL: Micah Parsons. That could be up for debate, but the former Penn State player is on track to become the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL. In the Draft, the Cowboys might target another key defensive player - but one who could come with baggage.
Jerry Jones may be infatuated with a defensive lineman from Ole Miss, but warnings have been issued
The Dallas Cowboys are looking to improve their defensive line and have been frequently linked to Mason Graham of the Michigan Wolverines in mock drafts. However, that may be wishful thinking - it's highly unlikely that Graham will still be available at pick No. 12, where the Cowboys are set to draft.
As a result, Jerry Jones and the Cowboys' front office have reportedly turned their attention to Walter Nolen, a defensive tackle from Ole Miss. But NFL executives believe that Dallas - and other teams - should steer clear of him due to reported emotional issues.
Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reported that NFL executives have expressed concerns about Nolen's "maturity" and several scouts have noted that he has a history of walking off the field during practice due to frustration.
Nolen's talent is undeniable
Despite these negative reports, if the team that drafts Walter Nolen handles him with care, he is considered a highly valuable player with star potential in the NFL.
In his final year at Ole Miss, he recorded 6.5 sacks, 49 total tackles, and 14 tackles for loss. He was also named an All-American.
