Micah Parsons anxiously waits for the Cowboys' call as Myles Garrett receives a record-setting contract

After he requested a trade from the lowly Cleveland Browns, Myles Garrett stunned the NFL world on Sunday by reversing course and agreeing to extend his contract with the franchise. The Hall of Fame-bound defensive end reset the market for his position after agreeing to a four-year extension with an average annual value of $40 million -- the news coming just a few days after the Las Vegas Raiders handed their star edge rusher Maxx Crosby a three-year extension worth more than $90 million guaranteed.

You can bet that Micah Parsons and his agent are looking on with great interest after Crosby and Garrett received lucrative extensions to remain with perennially-underachieving franchises. These developments have ratcheted up the pressure on the Dallas Cowboys to "firm up" Parsons' future with the team...but owner Jerry Jones seems less certain about hanging on to the All-Pro.

Parsons' future in Dallas is uncertain

According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, chatter continues to take place over Parsons' next contract -- and whether the Cowboys will be the ones paying him. With the edge rusher market now fixed at $40 million per year, Schultz has reported that a trade out of Dallas remains a possibility for Parsons, who has been named a first-team All-Pro selection twice and has recorded 52.5 sacks in 63 regular season games.

Parsons has made Cowboys' leadership uncomfortable at times with his talkative and opinionated nature -- and as he enters his "walk" year, the tension around the team's facility in nearby Frisco could reach an entirely new level if Jones does not soon hammer out the of an extension with his best defensive player. Seeing as the market has now swelled to where a defensive end is now the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL, a very interesting summer awaits for Parsons, Jones, and rival teams circling.
