- NFL. Troy Aikman wants Mike McCarthy to stay at the helm of the Dallas Cowboys: He's a great coach
Fans and pundits expect the Dallas Cowboys to make a head coaching change given the team's struggles so far this NFL season.
The Cowboys enter Thursday's Thanksgiving Day game against the New York Giants with a 4-7 record, with all signs pointing to the team missing the playoffs.
Despite their struggles owner Jerry Jones insists that head coach Mike McCarthy's job isn't at risk, at least not in the near future.
Nevertheless, fans and media expect a change to made at some point. However, Mike Florio wonders whether Jones is stringing this saga along in hopes of getting McCarthy to accept a lower salary.
"Maybe this black cloud that's been hovering over Mike McCarthy softens him up and gets him to take less than maybe what he would otherwise expect," he said on NFL on NBC.
While time will tell whether this proves to be the case, the fact Jones has continued to back McCarthy despite the team's struggles this year should be considered.
McCarthy has brought success to Dallas
It should also be noted that prior this season, McCarthy has brought a period of success and stability to the Cowboys.
After winning just six games in 2020, Dallas won 12 games in each of the next three seasons under McCarthy.
Nevertheless, with the pressure continuing to mount on the franchise, who last won the Super Bowl back in 1996, time will tell if McCarthy will be given another chance to end that drought following the current campaign.
