The Dallas Cowboys, like the rest of the NFL, are gearing up for the start of the season, though things haven't gone smoothly for the team this offseason.

With Week 1 fast approaching, CeeDee Lamb remains sidelined as he continues his holdout while waiting for a new contract.

The two sides have exchanged public statements, but it seems they are no closer to a new deal, with recent reports suggesting Lamb turned down an offer of $33 million a year. That's because he wants a deal close to the $35 million per year that Justin Jefferson earns.

With the talks still rumbling on, Cowboys insider Dave Helman spoke about how the talks have dragged on.

"Of course he's frustrated, and of course, this matters a lot because CeeDee Lamb is the Dallas Cowboys' offense," he said while on the 'SPEAK' YouTube show.

"Last year, there wasn't a lot in the way of depth behind him. They need him there."

Lamb has been key part of Cowboys offense

To say Lamb has been an important figure in the Cowboys offense would be putting it lightly.

Last year he led the league with 135 catches, which resulted in 1,749 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns.

Despite his impressive showings, Jerry Jones hasn't managed to lock him in to a new contract, stating before a preseason game agains the Raiders: "I'm not worried about a target date. I'm not worried about a deadline."

Helman believes time is ticking on getting a new deal completed.

"When you're talking about potentially becoming the highest-paid non-quarterback in the league... we've kind of been following this playbook for three months at this point," he said.

However, ESPN's Jeff Darlington provided an update that likely won't please Cowboys fans, stating the two sides aren't exactly close on term or money.

"It really doesn't feel like they've gotten to a point where they know the annual salary, where they know the contract length, where they know the real structure of the contract where it becomes guaranteed money," he said on 'Get Up'.
