There's been no shortage of headlines surrounding Shedeur Sanders over the past few months. First, everyone wanted to know how high he'd go in the NFL Draft. Then, the conversation quickly flipped to why he fell all the way to the fifth round. Throw in some criticism over flashy new cars, and the spotlight on Shedeur hasn't exactly cooled off.
But a recent viral video may have just changed the tone of the conversation entirely.
Rapper Gillie Da Kid-known as much for his Eagles fandom as for his podcast "Exciting Mics"-shared what he witnessed firsthand at Shedeur's draft party. And it wasn't what most people expected. "That man got picked. He was dancing like he was in the first round," Gillie said, describing Shedeur's reaction after falling much lower than projected. There was no bitterness, no public meltdown-just celebration.
Gillie wasn't just praising Shedeur's maturity. He pointed the credit squarely at Shedeur's parents, especially Coach Prime himself. "That just lets you know the kid has a solid foundation," he said.
The Battle for QB1 Just Got Complicated
Still, character off the field won't be enough to win the quarterback battle in Cleveland.
While rookie minicamp showed promise-Shedeur reportedly outperformed Dillon Gabriel-Organized Team Activities have brought him back down to earth. The Athletic's Zac Jackson praised Shedeur's arm talent and poise but made it clear: "He has almost zero chance to win the job in September."
Daniel Oyefusi noted on X that Sanders got "the fewest reps," though he did shine in red zone drills. And when veteran Joe Flacco is pushing the ball downfield and Kenny Pickett is, as Cleveland.com's Mary Kay Cabot put it, "in the lead," it's a tough hill to climb.
What started as a story of criticism might be quietly shifting. The pressure's still on, but now the league-and fans-are starting to see who Shedeur Sanders really is.
