Browns have a big offensive problem beyond the QB room, and Shedeur Sanders may be the reason

The Cleveland Browns' quarterback situation has garnered significant attention, especially with the addition of rookie Shedeur Sanders. However, a deeper issue looms: the offensive line's instability, which could hinder Sanders' development and the team's overall performance.

In the 2024 season, the Browns' offensive line allowed 66 sacks, the second-most in the NFL, and surrendered 219 pressures across 764 plays.

This resulted in a disappointing 24th-ranked -blocking efficiency rating of 83.6. While veteran guard Joel Bitonio provided some stability, the line's overall performance was subpar.

Injuries further exacerbated the situation. Right tackle Dawand Jones suffered a season-ending leg injury in November 2024, and left tackle Jedrick Wills Jr. struggled with consistency and health issues. The departure of depth players like James Hudson in free agency has left the line thin and inexperienced.

Shedeur Sanders faces uphill battle behind weak line

The Browns' decision to draft Shedeur Sanders indicates a desire to rejuvenate the quarterback position. However, without significant improvements to the offensive line, Sanders may face challenges similar to his predecessors.

The team's rushing attack also suffered, ranking 29th in rushing yards per game (94.6) and 22nd in yards before per rush (2.43), highlighting the line's struggles in run blocking.

To address these issues, the Browns have made some moves, such as g offensive guard Teven Jenkins and drafting center Drew Kendall. Jenkins brings versatility and experience, while Kendall offers potential as a future starter.

Despite these additions, the offensive line remains a work in progress. For Shedeur Sanders to succeed, the Browns must prioritize developing cohesion and depth within the line.

Failing to do so could jeopardize the rookie quarterback's growth and the team's aspirations for a turnaround season.
