- Shedeur. Shedeur Sanders' NFL dreams in jeopardy as Browns' roster moves raise eyebrows
All eyes were on Shedeur Sanders as he stepped into the NFL Draft spotlight, adorned in diamonds and wearing a "LEGENDARY" pendant-a fitting symbol for the moment he believed was his.
The former Colorado Buffaloes quarterback was projected to go early, but as the first round ended without his name called, reality hit hard. Determined and unfazed, Shedeur looked to Day 2 for redemption.
The Sanders family gathered once again, surrounded by ers and media coverage. As the 40th pick approached, Shedeur's phone rang. A voice claiming to be New Orleans Saints GM Mickey Loomis promised a selection.
"We're taking you with our next pick."
Elated, Shedeur responded in kind.
"Let's be legendary."
But hope quickly turned to confusion when the caller abruptly added the punchline.
"You'll have to wait a little longer," before hanging up.
Moments later, Louisville's Tyler Shough was selected instead-and Sanders realized he had been cruelly pranked.
Online investigators point fingers after Sanders' prank call
A video of the fake call soon surfaced online, showing the impersonator in an Ole Miss sweatshirt. Theories exploded across social media.
Many pointed to Jax Ulbrich, son of Atlanta Falcons DC Jeff Ulbrich, as the prankster. Some internet sleuths also tied New York Giants GM Joe Schoen's daughter, Sydney-an Ole Miss student-to the incident, although no solid evidence emerged. Regardless, the prank's exposure was enough to trigger an NFL investigation.
Despite the embarrassment, Sanders remained composed. Instead of lashing out, he chose grace.
"Why get mad? They want you to react. I'm not tripping," he said afterward, showing wisdom well beyond his years.
His father, Deion Sanders, expressed his disappointment more bluntly, but Shedeur's focus stayed sharp.
In the end, Cleveland gave him the call he had been waiting for. The Browns saw what others overlooked-a Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year, an FBS leader in completion, and a quarterback whose jersey had been retired at Colorado. Now, with a chip on his shoulder and a mission to prove the doubters wrong, Shedeur Sanders is ready to make his own legend in the NFL.
