On Friday, former NFL running back and ESPN analyst Merril Hoge spoke to NBC Sports Chicago about Williams - who might be the pick for the Chicago Bears in April. Safe to say, Hoge isn't a huge fan.
Merril Hoge unloads on Caleb Williams
Hoge prefaces his monologue by revealing he has only gone through and scouted six total games of Williams, three from 2022 and three from 2023. Then he unloads.
"The one thing that is clear: he is not special. He is not something unique like a Patrick Mahomes. And I hope the Bears don't think, 'let's make up for our mistake when we ed up Patrick Mahomes and go get him'."
Hoge then goes on to say Justin Fields has been dealt a tough hand through his first few seasons in the NFL. He also says he would keep Fields and on Williams if the decision was up to him.
The fact that Williams liked the post from a "Bears Talk" should point to his future NFL team. It also means Williams is keeping receipts in case he does turn into the elite talent many expect.
Williams also retweeted the Bears' official on Thursday when they shared a video of Devin Hester getting elected for the Pro Football Hall of Fame, so it appears he's getting ready. A new era is coming to Chicago.
