- Von Miller era over in Buffalo? Controversial moves that would create space to re-sign key veterans
- Josh Allen frustrated with Brandon Beane, Bills GM, over James Cook; the quarterback is determined to win the Super Bowl
Just weeks after g a one-year, $12 million deal with the Buffalo Bills, veteran edge rusher Joey Bosa is already on the sidelines. Head coach Sean McDermott confirmed this week that Bosa suffered a calf injury during early offseason workouts and will miss Organized Team Activities (OTAs). His return is expected in late July, when the team reports to training camp in Rochester.
The injury comes at a critical time for Bosa, who arrived in Buffalo hoping to revitalize his career after three difficult seasons with the Los Angeles Chargers. The 29-year-old, who turns 30 in July, has struggled with injuries, including groin, hip, foot, and back issues, limiting his playing time.
Over the past three seasons, he has missed 25 games and recorded just 14 sacks-a significant drop for one of the league's most feared rushers. Buffalo is counting on Bosa to boost its defensive front after parting ways with Von Miller earlier this offseason.
Injuries have been the name of the game for him
With 72 career sacks since entering the league in 2016, Bosa ranks tied for tenth in that span. However, durability remains the biggest concern. If healthy, he could bring crucial pressure off the edge, something the Bills desperately need to maintain their status as AFC contenders.
Bosa's familiarity with AFC West offenses, especially Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, could be valuable for Buffalo. Mahomes has become a major playoff obstacle for the Bills, boasting a 4-0 record against them in the postseason, including a 32-29 win in the AFC Championship game earlier this year. Bosa's ability to disrupt Mahomes could be a game-changer for Buffalo's defense come playoff time.
For now, the Bills and their fans will have to wait and see whether Bosa can shake off this latest setback. His talent is undeniable, but his ability to stay on the field will determine whether this move pays off. Training camp in late July will be the first real test of whether his redemption arc can stay on track.
