Damar Hamlin has been at the center of attention again but not for reasons that he would like.

He is viewed as being one of the most inspirational stories in modern NFL history given he overcame a mid-game cardiac arrest and managed to return to the field, so that is the lens that people tend to view him through now.

For that reason, fans think that it was very unfortunate for him to have been caught on camera during the NBC broadcast of Buffalo Bills vs Cincinnati Bengals picking his teeth and then seeming to swallow whatever he found.

Fans think Hamlin was treated unfairly

The general consensus seems to be that they should have cut to another camera when it was clear that Hamlin had been caught at a bad moment that nobody would want to be aired on national television.

"Absolutely losing my mind at Collinsworth and Tirico putting on serious voice to discuss Hamlin's injury while the live sideline cam shows him picking his teeth, then eating the offending morsel," one fan wrote.

Another was even more angry, writing: "Why? Why would they do that after all he has been through in his life?"

Another said simply: "That s**t is despicable".

Despite this, it was an emotional day for Hamlin as the Bills safety posed with the ten University of Cincinnati medics that saved his life on January 2.

"I'm humbled by the opportunity to set up a scholarship program to honor this team of professionals, my Cincinnati heroes, who helped save my life," Damar Hamlin said.

"Today, as I look at honoring these Cincinnati heroes and lifting up young people who are trying to find their way, I'm reminded of the enormous blessing I've been given through my charity and the generosity of people around the world."
