Simone Biles and Jordan Chiles claimed silver and bronze in Paris, opening the door for the 25-year-old Andrade to emotionally claim her second Olympics gold medal and her first on the floor.
With the artistic gymnast from Sao Paulo being regarded as one of the best in the world, Team USA's stars could only pay respect as they bowed to her in an emotional act of humility whilst Andrade was moved to tears on the podium.
But Humphrey, cornerback, hit out at the pair by describing it was "literally disgusting" on X.com, formerly Twitter, accompanied by a photo of the moment as the gold winner held her arms raised triumphantly.
Fans hit out at Humphrey
It was clearly something the internet disagreed with as they quickly hit back in response to the post, ed on August 5, as fans pointed out they were celebrating Andrade's recovery from three serious injuries.
One wrote on X.com, formerly Twitter, "Yeah, because giving someone their flowers who has come back from THREE ACL tears to continue to be a top gymnast is disgusting."
Whilst a second added, "You when people show good sportsmanship," accompanied with a GIF of the Boston Red Sox's David Ortiz smashing his bat in rage.
And a third wrote, "Ratio + Who are you compared to Rebeca Andrade?"
There were also a lot of replies in Brazilian as her compatriots rushed to defend the 25-year-old's moment and triumph and the respect paid to her by her colleagues.
It led to Humphreys to later post, "I'm lowkey getting cooked right now. I think I'm getting cussed out in Brazilian on Instagram lol."
