- Henry. Derrick Henry blames Cowboys for deal not getting done: They didn't even reach out to me
Being one of the premier running backs in the National Football League is no easy task and Derrick Henry showed just how far these professional athletes are willing to go when he revealed he's dropping a quarter of a million dollars on fitness regimes per year.
The Baltimore Ravens' star, who rushed for 1167 yards from 280 carries in 2023 with the Tennessee Titans, is thought to spend a massive amount of money to ensure he will be in prime condition to rush Lamar Jackson's plays.
Although at the age of 30, some are worried about his ability to maintain endurance through his senior years as a pro, the $240,000 he's spending to remain in fine form might actually calm those nerves.
As per The Athletic's Dan Pompei, Henry spends money on a personal chef, massages, infrared saunas, nutritious IV drips and hyperbaric oxygen in order to improve his recovery and training techniques.
Food is particularly interesting, as the 2016 second-round pick avoids gluten, sugar, fried foods and dairy and will only at from 16:00 or 17:00, only eating two meals per day.
"I probably eat three chicken breasts, some rice and broccoli," Henry told Pompei. "Then I have some gluten-free pancakes, scrambled eggs, diced potatoes, home fries and some steak."
He works out twice a day too, especially in the offseason, making sure his core strength and conditioning is supreme and his cardiovascular system remains top of the game to make the difference when it counts on the field.
He particularly enjoys 80lb dumbbells and 120lb Bulgarian squads to ensure he exits the gym mentally and physically harmonious and drenched in sweat.
This is not news to the Ravens
But this is no secret to his latest team, who have already praised his work ethic and dedication to the sport, which is no doubt part of why they decided to pick him up from the Tennessee Titans.
His commitment earned him 90 rushing touchdowns in eight seasons as well as 9502 rushing yards from 2030 carries from 119 games.
"One thing about Derrick - he works," Ravens coach John Harbaugh previously told ESPN's Jamison Hensley. "He is a worker, 100% every day, locked in.
"Asks questions, ready to go at practice, in the weight room, training room. [I'm] very impressed. This guy is a true pro, ultimate pro."
