As if NFL fans did not have enough to salivate over in 2024 -- the Kansas City Chiefs' potential three-peat, the rise of the Detroit Lions in the NFC, Joe Burrow's return to health in Cincinnati -- there will be a powerful new voice in the broadcast booth for FOX's coverage of the league.
The 2024 season will be the first season of legendary quarterback Tom Brady's new career in commentary, as part of a 10-year, $375 million deal he signed with the network. That contract puts Brady on FOX's top commentary team, displacing former Carolina Panthers star Greg Olsen -- who was issued a warning to Brady a few months before the new season kicks off.
Is there animosity between Brady and Greg Olsen?
In a new interview, Olsen -- who is losing roughly $7 million in salary by being bumped to FOX's "B" team -- said "we'll see how it all plays out" in reference to Brady entering the booth after the most decorated career an NFL player has ever had.
"I don't think there's any real correlation between being a great player or an average player, and how that correlates to being a great broadcaster or an average broadcaster," Olsen explained. "I think we've seen examples on both ends of that spectrum."
It's true that several former players have proven to be awkward fits in the booth or on studio s. Broadcasting requires quick thinking and concise thoughts, and FOX clearly feels that Brady -- a seven-time Super Bowl champion with the New England Patriots and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers -- fits the bill as an ideal color commentator next to top play-by-play man Kevin Burkhardt.
Brady himself revealed earlier this year that he has already begun working with Burkhardt in an attempt to build chemistry before September, and he also praised Olsen -- as many around the NFL have -- for his work in the booth. With Brady also reaching out to Olsen for advice, fans might not end up missing the former tight end all that much as FOX shuffles its broadcast rotation.
