Indianapolis Colts @ Buffalo Bills
Coach Sean McDermott has affirmed that quarterback Josh Allen and receiver Stefon Diggs will not participate in the game against the Colts. Meanwhile, the Colts are facing challenges as their standout offensive player, All-Pro running back Jonathan Taylor, remains absent due to contract negotiations and his recovery from an ankle injury that kept him out of action towards the end of the previous season. Furthermore, cornerback Chris Lammons is dealing with off-the-field complications stemming from his involvement in an altercation in Las Vegas during the offseason, resulting in a three-game suspension.
Tennessee Titans @ Chicago Bears
While Ryan Tannehill will start for the Titans this season, all eyes will be on who will back him up. Malik Willis, who struggled last season, will have his work cut out for him as Will Levis, the team's second round draft pick this year, and his raw potential will try to take the job. As for the Bears, they will be keen to see what top-10 pick Darnell Wright has to offer as they look to build up the offence around quarterback Justin Fields.
New York Jets @ Carolina Panthers
Although Aaron Rodgers will not be participating, viewers will get a look at the Panthers' top draft pick, Bryce Young. According to coach Frank Reich, some of the Panthers' key players will take the field during the game. As Jets running back Breece Hall continues to recover from his injury, the workload in the backfield will be distributed among Zonovan Knight, Israel Abinakanda, and Michael Carter.
Jacksonville Jaguars @ Dallas Cowboys
Jacksonville head coach Doug Pederson mentioned that their starting players would participate in a series or a couple of series. This group includes quarterback Trevor Lawrence and wide receiver Calvin Ridley, who will be making his debut with the Jaguars. In the case of Dallas, quarterback Dak Prescott is not expected to be in uniform for their initial preseason match. The responsibilities are likely to be handled by Cooper Rush and Will Grier, who will take most of the snaps. Running back Ronald Jones is uncertain to participate, which presents an opportunity for a variety of young running backs, including Deuce Vaughn.
Philadelphia Eagles @ Baltimore Ravens
Philadelphia head coach Nick Sirianni addressed the media on Thursday morning but refrained from confirming whether the starters would be included in the game. Meanwhile, the Ravens have made it clear that they will not field quarterback Lamar Jackson or any of their experienced starters against Philadelphia on Saturday, as confirmed by head coach John Harbaugh.
Los Angeles Chargers @ Los Angeles Rams
Neither Justin Herbert nor Matthew Stafford are expected to take the field at all in the first week of the 2023 NFL preseason. Currently, the Rams possess the most youthful team in the NFL, with 36 rookies among the 90 players on their roster. This lack of experience and the team's youthful composition will be prominently noticeable in the opening preseason game on Saturday night, where certain veterans are expected to rest.
