Johnny Manziel is going back to his old college town, but this time instead of buying shots in a bar he will be selling them.
The college football phenomenon turned NFL disaster announced via Instagram stories that he will open a bar in College Station, Texas, just a stone's throw away from where he rose to fame with Texas A&M.
The bar will be named "Johnny Manziel's Money Bar" and it will be opened this fall.
The origin of "Money Manziel"
Manziel, who is best known for his glory days in college football, was on top of the world in 2012 after becoming the first freshman to win the coveted Heisman Trophy.
The "Money Manziel" nickname, which follows him to this day, stemmed from an inside joke he had with his fellow teammate Ben Molina. The two used to motivate each other by saying "Let's get this money" as another way of saying "Let's go make this play".
Manziel also used the money signal, taken from the Jerry McGuire movie, in celebrations whenever he completed a scoring play.
"Johnny Football" only lasted two years in the NFL with the Cleveland Browns, but he will always hold a spot as one of the best college prospects in the history of football.
Now, almost a decade removed from his NFL days, the 30-year-old is bringing back the nickname that made him famous, to the town where he forged his identity, to fulfill one of his dreams of owning a bar in Northgate.
Manziel's "Untold" episode is coming up
It is no coincidence that Manziel's bar announcement happened this week.
The ex-footballer is going to feature in the episode of Netflix's "Untold" series where he will give viewers an inside look at his troubled years when he was navigating fame, including diving into his alcohol problems and his mental health issues.
Manziel's "Untold" episode will air on Tuesday, August 8.
