Baseball has given us a lot of great moments in the diamond and off of it, but none like the one a college player gave the world with his incredible skills.
A resurfaced video of Missouri S&T infielder Cole Hampton shocked sports fans, who were very impressed with the slugger abilities with his nose... Yes, his nose.
Hampton, who graduated college in 2022, appeared in 23 games and made 17 starts at third base and designated hitter that season. The 6'2, 195 pounds player from Edwardsville, Illionis, batted .235 with three doubles, a home run, eight RBI and 18 runs scored. He also went 5-5 on stolen bases, and hit safely in five-straight games to open the season.
An amazing trick with the nose
During an April 2022 regular season game, Missouri S&T infielder Cole Hampton found a three-hour rain delay activity that might put all the others to shame. While the Miners' Great Lakes Valley Conference matchup against Southern Indiana was resumed, the infielder decided to show off his world-class center of gravity.
Hampton performed a series of almost impossible balancing acts. The Illinois native started his show by balancing a baseball bat on his nose, an impressive feat that would cause most people to end up with a black eye and a bruised ego. For the infielder, it was just the start.
He then balanced both a hat and batting helmet by their brims on his nose before flipping the batting helmet on to his head. Hampton decided to moved onto balancing a folding chair (in both its folded and unfolded setting) as well as a hand sanitizer dispenser. He completed the display of athleticism by balancing a 20-foot pole on his chin.
A star on and off the field
Infielder Cole Hampton earned his second All-Midwest region honor for the 2023 season, a first-team selection as he was chosen to the squad announced by the Division II Conference Commissioners Association.
The Illinois native earned the award after leading the Miners in several offensive categories, including a batting average of .354, 12 home runs and 100 total bases while also driving in a team-high 57 runs. He was a first-team selection on the Great Lakes Valley Conference's all-conference squad.
He finished the 2023 GLVC campaign with two top-five finishes, ending up fifth in slugging percentage with a percentage of .694 and with a 1.194 on base plus slugging percentage (OPS) while finishing ninth in the GLVC with his 12 home runs.
