Shedeur Sanders achieved something that seemed impossible: a truce between two of the most important women in his life, his mother and his paternal grandmother. After years of disagreement, Pilar Sanders and Connie Knight found a common cause, thanks to the brilliant campaign of the Colorado Buffaloes' quarterback.
Shedeur's last season in the NCAA was nothing short of spectacular. The son of former NFL star Deion Sanders finished the campaign with 337 completions in 454 attempts, 3,926 yards, 35 touchdown es, and only eight interceptions.
His statistics and the 9-3 record of the Buffs this season earned the young Sanders the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, which is given to the best quarterback of the senior class. Not to mention his Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year and First-Team honors.
This avalanche of recognition led his mother and grandmother to sign a truce, sending touching congratulatory messages to the young star.
Connie and Pilar's truce
The divorce between Pilar and Deion opened an unbridgeable gap between his ex-wife and his mother. However, both women forgot their differences, at least for a day, to congratulate Shedeur for taking home the Johnny Unitas Award.
Connie was the first to congratulate her grandson, sharing the photo of the award ceremony on her Instagram Stories. Pilar did the same minutes later, also adding a congratulatory message to the original post on Shedeur's .
"Well deserved!!! Congratulations son and you did it #yourway young King," Pilar wrote on the post of the young Sanders, showing all the maternal pride for her son's success.
More congratulations for Shedeur
Connie and Pilar weren't the only ones celebrating Shedeur's achievement. The Buffs' Instagram ed in on the congratulations, as did his older brother, Deion Jr., who described him with one word, "Legendary."
Travis Hunter, his teammate and integral part of Shedeur's success, ed in on the congratulations with a simple "Hmmm" and a knowing-smile emoji. Meanwhile, former player and commentator Mark Ingram II exclaimed, "EARNED NOT GIVEN," ing in on the congratulations for the recognition of one of the best quarterbacks of this generation.
