Connecticut Huskies guard Paige Bueckers is widely regarded as the face of NCAA women's basketball following the departures of Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese to the WNBA. But that stardom comes at a price, as Bueckers unfortunately had to learn recently.
An Oregon man was arrested last month amid allegations that he harassed and stalked Bueckers. Robert Cole Parmalee is being held on $100,000 bail in Connecticut as the investigation continues into emails that he sent to the university, as well as social media posts that promoted a bizarre claim.
Bueckers' alleged stalker sent out wedding invites!
According to the Daily Mail, the 40-year-old Parmalee published at least one social media post that showed what appeared to be an engagement ring intended for Bueckers. Parmalee had sent several messages to UConn's communications department and wrote about his intent to marry Bueckers -- who never had any with Parmalee and ignored Instagram messages he is alleged to have sent her.
Parmalee's court date in Connecticut is set for Oct. 22, when his legal team will have to answer for allegations that included threats of suicide prior to his Aug. 27 arrest by Connecticut State Police -- while he was wandering along a controlled-access highway near the state capital Hartford, claiming he was en route to see the 22-year-old Bueckers.
Bueckers, a former National Player of the Year who guided the Huskies to the Final Four last season, enters her final season with nothing but an NCAA championship on her mind before she enters the pro ranks in 2025. Her potential distractions were reduced by one following Parmalee's apprehension, which will surely be a relief to the player, her family, and her teammates.
