Colorado head coach Deion Sanders has expressed disappointment over the lack of Heisman Trophy attention for his star players, Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter, following their standout performances in the season opener against North Dakota State.

In Colorado's narrow 31-26 victory, quarterback Shedeur Sanders threw for an impressive 445 yards and four touchdown es, three of which were caught by Travis Hunter.

Coach Prime scares Colorado football player with unconventional coaching method

Hunter, playing an extraordinary dual role on both offense and defense, hauled in seven es for 132 yards while also excelling in his cornerback duties.

Despite these standout performances, Sanders believes the national media hasn't given his players the attention they deserve.

During his weekly coaches' show on Thursday, Sanders, also known as "Coach Prime," questioned why the performances of his players were not dominating the early-season Heisman conversation.

"Shouldn't those two be talked about all week as the leading Heisman guys? Or the weekly award should have gone to them," he said, alluding to a possible bias, on the Colorado Football Coaches Show.

"But it's almost like, 'No, we can't do that. Their coach is Deion Sanders, we can't do that. I'm not gonna let him get away with that.'"

Sanders wants more recognition

Despite their standout display, Miami quarterback Cam Ward was awarded the Week 1 Player of the Week after leading the Hurricanes to a road win over Florida.

Though both Shedeur Sanders and Hunter have been part of early Heisman discussions, Coach Prime feels their performances should have earned them more national recognition.

As Colorado prepares to face Nebraska this weekend, another strong showing could propel Sanders and Hunter further into the Heisman spotlight.

Coach Sanders remains confident that with continued performances like their opener, his players will receive the recognition they deserve.
