For 2025, organizers have confirmed that the race will feature a total prize purse exceeding $1.13 million, reinforcing its reputation as one of the premier events in international distance running.
Set to take place on Monday, April 21, the 129th running of the Boston Marathon will welcome elite athletes from around the globe, and the rewards awaiting them go far beyond just prestige. Runners in the Open Division-both men's and women's races-will compete for a top prize of $150,000, with additional substantial payouts for top finishers through 10th place.

Prize breakdown for 2025: Open, Wheelchair, Masters, and Para Athletics Divisions
In the Open Division, the financial rewards are especially strong. The winner will take home $150,000. Second place will receive $75,000, while third place earns $40,000. Runners who finish from fourth to tenth will also be compensated, with prize amounts ranging from $25,000 to $5,500 depending on their placement.
Wheelchair athletes are also receiving significant prize money. In the T53/54/34 classification, the top finisher will earn $50,000. The second-place athlete receives $30,000, and third place secures $15,000. Competitors who finish between fourth and tenth place will collect awards between $10,000 and $1,500.
In the T51-T52 wheelchair category, the prize amounts are smaller but remain meaningful. The first-place athlete will receive $1,500, followed by $750 for second place and $500 for third.
Athletes in the Masters Division, which includes runners aged 40 and over, will also be rewarded. The top finisher in this category earns $5,000. Second place is awarded $2,500, while third place will receive $1,500. Though more modest than the Open Division, these awards still acknowledge the achievements of older elite runners.
The Para Athletics Divisions will distribute nearly $100,000 in prize money across seven classifications. In most divisions, the first-place winner will earn $3,000. The runner-up is awarded $2,000, and the third-place finisher receives $1,500. An exception exists in the T20 classification, where third place garners $1,000 instead.
