Pope Leo XIV is facing fierce criticism on social media after his words about family unity, in what was a meeting with representatives of different countries at the Holy See.
This is the first controversy faced by the new Pope, after he said: "We must invest in the family, founded on the stable union between a man and a woman, a small but true society, and prior to any civil society. It is the way to build harmonious and peaceful civil societies."
This has led the LGTBI community to ask the pontiff to rectify his comments.
He also focused his speech on immigrants: "No one can avoid promoting contexts in which the dignity of every person is protected, especially the most fragile and defenseless, from the unborn to the elderly, from the sick to the unemployed, whether citizens or immigrants."
And it is that, as he himself says, his life is based on the care of the most disadvantaged: "My story is that of a citizen, a descendant of immigrants, who in turn emigrated. Each of us, throughout life, can find ourselves healthy or sick, employed or unemployed, in our homeland or in a foreign land: our dignity, however, always remains the same, that of a creature loved and loved by God."
It's not his first controversy surrounding the LGTBI community
However, this is not the first time that social media has lashed out at Leon XIV in relation to the LGTBI community. In one of his first audiences after being elected, he walked among the public greeting those present, but there was one detail that did not go unnoticed.
When he arrived in an area where there was an LGTBI flag, the Pope looked the other way and began to greet the people who were there, ignoring the flag, something that many think he did on purpose.
However, from EFE, as well as other Twitter (X) s, have indicated that it is not the LGTBI flag, but the peace flag which, although similar to the Pride flag, has seven colors instead of six.
