A question that we have all asked ourselves at some time is what will happen when human beings become extinct or what species may appear after humanity on our planet. Well, a book written by Professor Tim Coulson, an expert in zoology and biology at the University of Oxford, called 'The Universal History of Us', has revealed it.

"I am interested in what happens to ecosystems and their species when the number of top predators is altered. I develop theories and test them with field data collected from wild animals and plants," said the expert.

The species that will replace humans, in detail, according to the study

In the first instance, the Oxford University expert's book says that humans would disappear completely. Later, it also reveals that other primates would appear on the scene, but with limits: they would be social animals, which could make it difficult for them to adapt to the new world. This can also be applied to dolphins.

However, the clearest answer from this study is that of an animal that was already on Earth before the dinosaurs, being one of the first to inhabit the planet: octopuses, as they have adapted to multiple ecosystems, are intelligent and evolve very quickly.

In the book, Coulson says that all species have an expiration date, allowing for the arrival of new life forms, but says that octopuses could be the exception, as despite living underwater, they have the ability to breathe through their skin, allowing them to explore the terrestrial habitat and interact with the environment.

However, there are a number of disadvantages: they have no skeleton, their life cycle is three to five years and their reproduction focuses on quantity rather than care for the species. Thus, according to 'The Universal History of Us', octopuses would be the species that would not only survive the extinction of humanity, but would consolidate at the forefront of the planet.
