The concern of experts and space agencies about the approach of asteroid 2024 YR4 to Earth is more than evident. So much so that China, one of the major powers, has already begun preparations for planetary defense and thus anticipate a shock plan in case it ends up impacting the planet, something that today has just over 2% chance of occurring in 2032.

According to The Guardian, the State istration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense of China (SASTIND) is looking for young people with knowledge of aerospace, asteroid detection and international cooperation. Tension over 2024 YR4 is palpable.

What day could asteroid 2024 YR4 hit Earth?

This highlights China's uncertainty about the future movements of asteroid 2024 YR4, whose impact would occur in 2032, if it does occur. According to experts, the object is between 40 meters and 90 meters wide and has a 2% chance of hitting Earth.

If it happens, it would occur on December 22, 2032, and experts believe that, because of its size, it would cause serious damage in the specific area where it will hit. The devastation would be total in that area. What is worrying is that, so far, most asteroids did not exceed 1% probability, something that doubles 2024 YR4.

In the following years, the evolution of the asteroid will be studied, although the hope is that, before 2032, the percentage will have been reduced. However, experts do not rule out that this probability may increase, which would force more urgent measures to be taken and greater involvement of the planet's governmental organizations.
