Which state pays more in SSDI currently? Complete list of pay rates per state
Actualizado

SSDI (Social Security Disability Insurance) is a federal program in the United States that provides financial assistance to individuals who are unable to work due to a qualifying disability, but there are different rates per state. Why is this? How much does your state pay?

SSDI is funded through payroll taxes under the Federal Insurance Contributions Act (FICA) and is part of the broader Social Security system, aiming to those with a medically proven disability that prevents substantial gainful activity.

This generally applies to disabled workers, dependents and disabled widows/widowers where they have paid into Social Security, but are no longer able to work to their fullest capacity due to their ailment.

SSDI rates: Complete list

Though SSDI is a federal program, the variability in the average monthly payment by state is due to differences in individual earnings histories and local economic factors. For example, workers in states like New Jersey or California typically earn higher wages, resulting in higher SSDI rates.

Additionally, whilst SSDI does not explicitly adjust for cost of living by state, higher wages in states with higher living costs indirectly affect benefits. Variations in disability prevalence and retirement age can influence payments.

The average SSDI rate paid is currently $1471.46 but it's a sliding scale that can see very different numbers at either end. For example, DC pays the least at $1321.04 whilst New Jersey pays the most at $1648.06.
