- News. Is Elon Musk leaving the Trump istration because of the president's 'Big, Beautiful Bill'?
President Donald Trump announced a t press conference with Elon Musk on Friday, in what will be the "magnificent" last day of the world's richest man at the helm of the mission to cut federal spending, where the tycoon participated as one of Trump's closest cabinet in his second istration and which generated enormous controversy among different federal agencies
Musk announced on Wednesday that his involvement in government was coming to an end shortly after he criticized the budget bill sent to Congress by Trump himself, as he considered that this bill approved by the House of Representatives and to be voted on by the Senate, would increase the deficit and affect the work done by the government efficiency commission (DOGE) itself, which has dismissed tens of thousands of civil servants
"I have a press conference tomorrow at 1:30 PM this (17H30 GMT), with Elon Musk, in the Oval Office," Trump wrote on his Truth Social network on Thursday. "This will be his last day, but not really because he will always be with us helping us at all times," he added.
However, Musk ended up unhappy with the Trump istration as he claimed he became a "scapegoat" for discontent with the federal istration
"As my scheduled time as a special government employee comes to an end, I would like to thank President Donald Trump for the opportunity to reduce superfluous spending," Musk wrote Wednesday on his social network X.
The relationship between Trump and Musk
On his return to the White House, Donald Trump has pushed a series of measures aimed at cutting public spending and reforming the structure of the federal government.
One of his most controversial initiatives was the creation of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which was headed by Musk until Friday
This commission, officially announced in February, would seek to identify unnecessary agencies and positions in the istration, as well as eliminate programs considered redundant, which led to the dismissal of more than 50,000 federal employees, according to a study by The Washington Post.
Musk served as an "unpaid special employee" under a scheme authorized by the 1970 Expert Public Service Act, which allows private figures to temporarily collaborate with the government. Musk served in the role aggressively advocating the need to "slim down the state" and modernize government technology systems.
However, his remarks generated strong opposition in Congress, particularly from Democratic lawmakers and federal workers' unions, who denounced mass layoffs without implementing a labor transition plan for those affected
Musk and the financial problems of his businesses
Musk claims he is moving away from political activity to focus on his businesses, mainly Tesla, which has suffered million-dollar losses due to the high production costs of its vehicles, as well as the rocket company SpaceX, which has had several accidents when being sent out of the Earth's atmosphere.
