The weather is starting to improve in many parts of the country, and in-store deals are also on the rise.
"In April, Mother's Day is approaching and everyone is gearing up for spring, so there is more demand for products that suit the warm weather," says Julie Ramhold, consumer analyst at DealNews. "And this year, we have Easter in April, so that adds to it as well."
Bargain hunters can read on to see a list of products that are often on sale in April.

Sports shoes
Many sports shoe brands are launching new models this month, as gym-goers begin to take their workout routines outdoors. This means you'll find discounts on sports shoe lines that are no longer being sold, including deals on orthopedic shoes designed for older adults.
Look for deals at sporting goods stores and directly from manufacturers. Running stores may also offer discounts; they may not be as attractive, but you will receive expert footwear advice on the best pair for your feet and stride.

- Potential savings: 40% to 60% off
Gardening articles
Retailers are aware of the short window gardeners have to get started with their spring planting, so they're eager to lure customers in this month. Expect discounts on gardening tools such as hoses and trimmers, as well as deals on plants, mulch and soil
If you've never gardened before, consider giving it a try: studies show that it's real exercise, with a variety of potential health benefits, from stronger hands to healthier hearts and longer lives.
- Where to look for deals: Lowe's, Home Depot, local garden centers
- Potential savings: 20% to 30% off
Spring clothing
Although spring is just beginning to be felt, many stores already have spring clothing, such as lightweight jackets, on their shelves for more than a month. This usually means they are willing to lower prices to make room for summer clothing such as swimsuits, tank tops and shorts.
The best deals on spring clothing are usually found over the Easter weekend (April 19 and 20), according to budget consultant Andrea Woroch.
- Where to look for deals: J Crew Factory, Puma, Old Navy
- Potential savings: between 30% and 40%
Eco-friendly products
This month, in honor of Earth Day festivities, retailers and consumers are thinking about the environment. The annual event is celebrated on April 22, but you can find deals throughout the month on a variety of eco-friendly or sustainably produced products, from organic cleaning products to reusable bags and larger purchases such as energy-efficient dryers and refrigerators.
You can also find April deals on used electronics at select stores and second-hand clothing at thrift stores, ideal for Americans over 50 who live on fixed incomes but are looking to refresh their wardrobe.
- Where to look for deals: Amazon, Best Buy, Blueland
- Potential savings: 10% to 20% discount
Kitchen utensils and small appliances
William-Sonoma and Our Place usually hold their annual spring cookware sales in April, and many of their competitors also have promotional events this month
The offers on pots and pans, as well as waffle irons and coffee makers, reflect an effort by retailers to attract consumers who are getting ahead of their Mother's Day gift shopping.
- Where to look for deals: All-Clad, Macy's, Sur la Table
- Potential savings: 30% to 40% off
Paper shredders
The deals on paper shredders appear this month because retailers know that many Americans empty their filing cabinets in April after filing their tax returns. In addition to office supply stores, Ramhold suggests looking at Amazon Basics for an inexpensive, no-frills model.
"They tend to be quite basic, as the brand suggests," he says, "but they are ideal for those who do not need a powerful shredder to process their documents."
- Where to look for deals: Staples, Office Depot, Target
- Potential savings: 10% to 20% off
Easter decorations and items
After the holidays, you'll find deals on all kinds of Easter-themed decorations and party supplies, such as plastic eggs, decorative grass and baskets. This makes the last week of April a great opportunity to stock up not only on items for next year, but also on Easter-themed candy and chocolate.
- Where to look for offers: Walmart, CVS, supermarkets
- Potential savings: 50% to 70% off
