It looks as though President Donald Trump is gearing up for Elon Musk to soon step back from his advisory role in the government.

The source of that news is Trump himself, with insiders telling Politico and ABC News that of the Cabinet have been advised that Musk will soon return to his business ventures and thus shift into a "ing role."

Musk currently has a 130-day contract as a "special government employee" in Trump's istration as he heads the Department of Government Efficiency's efforts. There are some who won't be bothered by the news though, as Politico's Rachel Bade says that some White House insiders "increasingly view the billionaire as a political liability."

Differing views on Musk's influence

As for Musk's transition, one senior istration official said Musk is likely to "retain an informal role" as an adviser, and another warned that people are "fooling themselves" if they believe his influence on the president will wane.

Regardless, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt played down the significant of Musk's transition.

"This 'scoop' is garbage," Leavitt posted on X. "Elon Musk and President Trump have both *publicly* stated that Elon will depart from public service as a special government employee when his incredible work at DOGE is complete."

Musk's unpopularity on a national stage was made clear when the conservative Wisconsin Supreme Court candidate he poured millions into getting elected lost to a left-leaning judge by nearly 10 points on April 1.

This came after he was made to respond to Nazi allegations after making a hand gesture on Inauguration Day.

He's also facing family drama, including criticism from his estranged daughter, his former partner Grimes, and another mother of one of his 14 known children.

Not to mention Tesla Cybertrucks are being recalled, his SpaceX Starship recently exploded and Tesla stock prices have plummeted as protest attacks on Tesla dealerships continue.
