Just 60 days later, she was found dead at her home in Alexandria, according to local media reports. At the moment, the possible causes of death are not known, and this will have to be revealed by the autopsy. Police found her body on Saturday morning at around 9:00 am

Her successor described Jessica D. Aber as "unmatched as a leader, mentor and irreplaceable."

Jessica D. Aber was appointed U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia in 2021, during Joe Biden's term. After her resignation, she said she would continue to work to restore the trust that had been lost in law enforcement in the prosecutor's office. Her cases were closely related to terrorism, violent gang crime and leaks of classified documents

One of the first reactions to this unexpected death came from US Attorney General Pam Bondi: "It is deeply tragic. Our and prayers are with his family and friends at this difficult time." His successor in office also spoke out: "He was unparalleled as a leader, mentor and prosecutor, and is simply irreplaceable as a human being."
