Prince William appeared to deliver a pointed comment that many interpret as a veiled reference to his estranged brother during a recent royal visit to the British military regiment in Britain.
The exchange took place on June 4, 2025, when William, now the colonel-in-chief of the Army Air Corps (ACC), toured the regiment at Wattisham, Suffolk-a unit once closely associated with Harry.
It was the Prince of Wales' first official visit to the regiment since assuming his new role in May 2024, a position previously linked to Harry before he and Meghan Markle stepped back from royal duties in 2020 and relocated to Montecito in California.
"Is the pace of life good at the moment?" William asked, according to the Daily Mail.
"Families okay? See you enough?"
He then quipped: "Some of them might not want to see you that much. It's a mixed bag sometimes."
The moment came during a casual conversation and raised eyebrows considering the very public feud between King Charles III and his sons, although the comment's intended target remains unconfirmed.
The rift between the brothers has been a focal point in royal affairs for several years, and intensified following Harry and Meghan's highly publicized interview with Oprah Winfrey in March 2021, which exposed internal family tensions.
Their subsequent Netflix documentary and Harry's memoir Spare only deepened the divide, as well as the recent legal battle over the Duke of Sussex's supposed right to tax-payer funded security in Britain, which he lost.
Since that Oprah interview, the Brit has largely been cut adrift from his immediate family and rarely sees them or has any kind of meaningful interactions with them; although he has claimed he wants to fix things. Yet this might be tough.
"The underlying issue is trust," a source told PEOPLE of the relationship. "The King and William don't trust Harry and Meghan with any kind of confidential conversation."
Prince William's appointment is a dagger to Harry
Prince William's appointment as colonel-in-chief of the ACC symbolically underscores the shifting royal dynamics in the wake of the broken bridges between Buckingham Palace and the Sussexes.
Prince Harry trained as an ACC pilot in 2009 and served tours in Afghanistan under this regiment and had the 40-year-old remained a working royal, it is believed King Charles would have named him to the position officially.
Instead, the role ed to William after Harry's departure from frontline royal duties, adding another level of bitterness between Markle's husband towards the Royal Family in their ongoing war of words.
The magnitude of disrepair can be spotted in the fact that both were present at King Charles' coronation in May 2023, but witnesses noted they avoided interaction. They then repeated this policy at a memorial service for their late uncle Robert Fellowes in Norfolk.
