Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, once lauded for their philanthropic ambitions, have failed to secure a place on Time Magazine's first-ever Time100 Philanthropy list.

The omission marks a notable change from their earlier accolades, having previously appeared on the publication's broader Time100 list of influential people in 2018 and again in 2021.

This year's philanthropy edition highlights individuals and organizations recognized for their substantial contributions to global causes.

Honorees include Oprah Winfrey, David Beckham, and notably, Prince William and Princess Kate, who were commended for their ongoing work in homelessness advocacy and early childhood development.

However, Harry and Meghan's exclusion comes despite their continued involvement in charitable work through their Archewell Foundation, which s mental health, online safety, and community-based outreach.

The couple's absence from the list has reignited discussion surrounding their public image, particularly after a controversial 2021 Time cover drew both praise and mockery online.

That cover, which showed Meghan positioned in front of Harry at their California estate, prompted criticism from social media s who accused the photo of being overly edited and awkwardly staged.

Some claimed it revealed a perceived imbalance in their relationship, with one critic commenting, "Wow, this photo speaks volumes. There is no hiding who's in control."

Critics recall controversial cover as new Time list is released

The backlash at the time included memes, reaction gifs, and commentary that mocked the photo's composition. Still, Time's picture editor Dilys Ng defended the image, saying it captured the couple's "powerful dynamic as equal partners."

The 2021 feature also included a flattering essay written by the couple's friend and renowned chef José Andrés, whose charity World Central Kitchen has received from Archewell.

"They don't just opine. They run toward the struggle," Andrés wrote. "In a world where everyone has an opinion about people they don't know, the duke and duchess have comion for the people they don't know."

Although they were "humbled" to be included on the Time100 list at the time, the Sussexes' current omission from the philanthropy-focused edition is raising eyebrows.

Especially so, given their regular promotion of humanitarian causes and recent public appearances, such as Meghan's keynote speech at the Time100 Summit in April, where she declared, "Of all the things that have happened in my life, I never would have imagined that getting here, at this point, I feel just so happy and grateful."

In contrast, the Prince and Princess of Wales were praised for initiatives tied to the Royal Foundation. Time cited their leadership in addressing homelessness and William's Earthshot Prize, which s innovative environmental solutions.

"Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales, are less concerned with cultural preservation and more attuned to social issues," Time wrote in the list's accompanying commentary.

Other names included on the philanthropy list were actor Michael Sheen-celebrated for forgiving over $1 million in personal debt for hundreds of families-Warren Buffett, and Dolly Parton.

While Harry and Meghan continue their philanthropic endeavors, their absence from the new list suggests a shift in perception when it comes to influence in the philanthropic space.

Their presence at events may still draw headlines, but this time, recognition from Time Magazine belongs to others.
