Prince Harry has expressed a deep desire to mend fractured ties with his family, despite an escalating dispute over his security arrangements and limited communication with King Charles III.
In a recent interview with the BBC, the Duke of Sussex revealed that he has chosen to forgive his family for past conflicts and hopes for peace-especially as his father battles cancer.
"There have been so many disagreements between myself and some of my family," Harry said.
"But I've forgiven them. Life is precious. I would love reconciliation with my family."
He emphasized the urgency of healing old wounds, acknowledging that he's unsure how much time remains with his ailing father. However, his overtures come amid fresh tensions with the monarch-tensions Harry says have resulted in total silence.
Security dispute fuels silence from King Charles
At the heart of the discord is a legal battle over Harry's taxpayer-funded security. Since stepping back from official royal duties and relocating to California, Harry lost access to the protection once guaranteed to him as a senior royal.
He recently challenged that decision in court, but his appeal was rejected on Friday by senior judges Sir Geoffrey Vos, Lord Justice David Bean, and Lord Justice Andrew Edis.
The ruling reinforced that publicly funded security was not appropriate for non-working royals. Harry was deeply disappointed, claiming the verdict was not simply a legal matter but the result of pressure from royal insiders.
"I'm devastated-not just because of the loss, but because of the people behind the decision who think this is acceptable," he said.
"Is this a win for them? I'm sure there are people out there, probably those who wish me harm, who see it that way."
Harry further revealed that his father refuses to speak with him because of the ongoing "security stuff."
"I can't see a world in which I would bring my wife and children back to the UK at this point."
During a two-day hearing in London, Harry argued that he and his family were subjected to "unjustified and inferior treatment." The legal defeat solidified a wider emotional and physical distance between the Duke and the rest of the Royal Family.
Compounding the divide is Meghan Markle's continued absence from royal life. She has not returned to the UK since Queen Elizabeth II's funeral in September 2022. According to Harry, the loss of guaranteed protection remains a significant obstacle.
Still, Harry's tone remains hopeful, albeit cautious. Despite the courtroom setback and limited dialogue with King Charles, he insists he is ready to move forward.
"There's no point continuing to fight," he said. "Life is too short."
