During the final days of Queen Elizabeth's life, the rest of the British royal family rushed to her side in order to share one last moment with her.

However, King Charles reportedly made the tough call and asked that Prince Harry visit his grandmother without Meghan Markle by his side. This came with the understanding that Princess Kate would also stay at home.

However, in his biography Charles III: New King, New Court, The Inside Story, author Robert Herdman revealed that Kate wasn't actually asked to stay at home.

Instead, she opted to do so in order to look after her three children - George, Charlotte and Louis.

On the day that the Queen ed away, the children were slated to start at their new school, Lambrook, with Kate's decision making things easier on Charles.

Why Meghan was asked to stay home

As for Meghan, Charles was keen to avoid infighting during the Queen's final moments, which is why she was asked to remain at home.

"He said I was welcome at Balmoral, but he didn't want... her. He started to lay out his reason, which was nonsensical, and disrespectful, and I wasn't having it," Harry wrote in his memoir Spare.

Harry says he hit back at his father's comments, stating: "Don't ever speak about my wife that way...He stammered, apologetic, saying he simply didn't want a lot of people around. No other wives were coming, Kate wasn't coming, he said, therefore Meg shouldn't. Then that's all you needed to say."

The Queen ed away on September 8, 2022. Only Charles, Camilla and Princess Anne were able to see her before her ing.

Safe to say that since then the bad blood within the royal family hasn't gone away, with Prince Harry still at odds with the rest of his family. How much of that can be put on King Charles' decision on this matter is unknown, though it is clear that it wasn't well received by the Duke of Sussex.
