Director James Gunn has revealed one important detail of his first film as DC co-chief, Superman: Legacy, by clearing up that his movie won't feature a 'young Superman'.
Gunn, who is in charge of revitalizing the DC universe with the new Superman movie, took the chance to dismiss the rumor while interacting with fans on Threads, Meta's new social media platform.
Superman: Legacy plot rumors
Gunn cleared the misunderstanding that had been going around the internet after he himself posted on Twitter back in December that ''In the initial stages, our story will be focusing on an earlier part of Superman'slife, so the character will not be played by Henry Cavill".
This gave fans license to run wild with their imagination thinking the studio was going to revisit the superhero's upbringing, something that would be logical since Cavill is now 40 and couldn't for a teenager.
But as it turns out, the studio executive had to avoid the rumor getting bigger and took the chance to set things straight a few days ago.
While holding an impromptu Q&A exchange on Threads, a fan took the chance to ask Dunn if the 'young Superman' movie he was working on would be set in the past.
Dunn answered the fan and course-corrected assumptions about his next big project by stating "I was never making a 'young Superman' movie, just a Superman movie!"
Casting should have dispelled rumors
Back at the start of summer, rumors of a young Superman movie should have died down when the studio announced who would be reprising the iconic roles.
David Corenswet, who is 30 and looks like he was born to play Superman, will play Clark Kent, while Rachel Brosnahan, who is 33, will be the new Lois Lane.
And speaking of casting, the latest headlines surrounding the movie say that fans were concerned that the film has too many characters and they fear the plot won't focus enough on their beloved hero.
To that, Gunn was quick to answer by comparing this movie to Steve Carrell's'40-Year-Old Virgin' by saying "I don't understand this fear. There are less characters than in 40-Year-Old Virgin. Did you think Steve Carell got enough time?"
So far, the studio has confirmed Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern, and Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho.
Superman: Legacy is expected to it theaters in Summer of 2025.
