Nicola Peltz has been officially ordered to sit for a deposition in connection with her lawsuit over the heartbreaking death of her beloved chihuahua, Nala. The legal drama, which has taken a deeply personal turn, is unfolding at the same time as tensions continue to rise between Nicola and her in-laws, David and Victoria Beckham.
According to court documents obtained by In Touch, a New York judge has instructed the 30-year-old actress and model to provide testimony before October 30. Additionally, she must authorize the release of medical documentation, including a necropsy report, to help determine the precise cause of Nala's death.
The ruling marks a new chapter in the lawsuit Nicola filed against HoundSpa, its owner Deborah Gittleman, and groomer Jony Ceballos - whom she holds responsible for the sudden ing of her pet.
Peltz's emotional claims and the groomer's firm denial
Nicola, who rescued Nala nine years ago, has described the dog as a cherished member of her family. She noted that chihuahuas typically live between 14 and 16 years, and asserted that Nala's ing at age nine was not natural but the result of "groomer's abuse."
In the lawsuit, Nicola detailed her use of HoundSpa's services in 2022. Despite previous discomfort with Ceballos, who she claims her family specifically requested not be assigned to their animals, she alleges he was sent on June 15, 2024, without her knowledge. That day, he groomed five of the family's dogs-including Nala.
The suit describes how Nala entered the grooming van "a happy, healthy dog," but emerged in visible distress. "Nala went into the grooming van, a happy, healthy dog, but returned injured and in severe physical distress-breathing heavily and wheezing, with her chest pulsating. As poor Nala suffered, Nicola rushed her to the vet, a fifteen-minute drive away," the lawsuit reads.
Once at the veterinary clinic, Nicola Peltz was told that Nala's tongue had turned blue, she had fluid in her lungs, and signs of neurological trauma were present.
"Due to her injuries and severe condition, Nala tragically ed away a mere two hours after being in the van with the groomer," Nicola's attorney stated. The actress is seeking damages, which she says will be donated in full to a dog rescue charity.
The defendants, including groomer Jony Ceballos, have strongly denied all allegations. Ceballos' legal team has gone a step further, arguing that Nicola may be partly responsible due to "comparative negligence."
